How to remove duplicates in Excel (built-in, formula, add-in)

Remove duplicate rows in Excel with Data → Remove Duplicates, the UNIQUE function, or an add-in that lets you review first.

1. Built-in: Remove Duplicates

  1. Click inside the table.
  2. Data → Data Tools → Remove Duplicates.
  3. Tick My data has headers, choose the columns, click OK.

It deletes at once, keeps the first row, and does not trim spaces (Ann and Ann stay separate).

2. Formula (Excel 365 / 2021+): UNIQUE

=UNIQUE(A2:D1000)

3. Add-in: review before deleting

CleanRows for Excel highlights duplicates first, adds a Duplicate of row N column, keeps the last or most complete row, or moves duplicates to a new sheet.

Do it in two clicks inside Excel. CleanRows for Excel highlights, deletes or moves duplicates by the columns you pick, ignores case/spaces/accents and compares two sheets. Free up to 1,000 rows. Install CleanRows for Excel →
