How to remove duplicates in Google Sheets (3 ways)
Remove duplicate rows in Google Sheets with the built-in cleanup, the UNIQUE formula, or an add-on that lets you review first.
1. Built-in: Data cleanup
- Select the table, including the header.
- Data โ Data cleanup โ Remove duplicates.
- Tick Data has header row, choose the columns to compare, click Remove duplicates.
Limits: it deletes immediately (no review), keeps the first row only, and treats Ann and ann as different values.
2. Formula: UNIQUE (keeps the original untouched)
In an empty sheet or column:
=UNIQUE(A2:D)Returns each distinct row once. Rows must match exactly in every column (UNIQUE is case-sensitive).
3. Add-on: review before deleting
Use CleanRows to highlight duplicates first, add a Duplicate of row N column, keep the last or most complete row, or move duplicates to a new sheet.
Do it in two clicks inside Google Sheets. CleanRows highlights, deletes or moves duplicates by the columns you pick, ignores case/spaces/accents and compares two sheets. Free up to 1,000 rows. Get CleanRows โ
