Remove duplicates ignoring case and spaces in Google Sheets

UNIQUE is case-sensitive and keeps extra spaces. Normalise with LOWER and TRIM to catch 'Ann', 'ann' and ' ann '.

Distinct values after normalising:

=UNIQUE(ARRAYFORMULA(LOWER(TRIM(FILTER(A2:A, A2:A<>"")))))

This returns the cleaned text (lowercase). To keep the original rows, add a helper key in E2 and fill down:

=LOWER(TRIM(A2))

then mark repeats with =COUNTIF(E$2:E2,E2)>1. CleanRows ignores case and spaces by default and keeps your original text.

Do it in two clicks inside Google Sheets. CleanRows highlights, deletes or moves duplicates by the columns you pick, ignores case/spaces/accents and compares two sheets. Free up to 1,000 rows. Get CleanRows →
